What are bottle yachts?

Bottle boats are homemade model yachts built from recycled bottles, found objects, and other low cost materials.

Can I participate?

Yes! 
1. Learn to Sail is free and open to all ages, recommended > 8-10 yrs, no boat/experience needed.

2. The Bruce Ettinger Bottle Yacht Regatta is open to any bottle boat made following race guidelines, available here:www.bottleyachtregatta.org

Question 3

Does an eventbrite ticket register me for Learn to Sail?

Accepted Answer

No. Learn to sail registration will be in person on a first come basis beginning at 1pm at the regatta information table at the lake. We will sign the first 30 people up. Please see FAQ about what time Learn to Sail will start.

Question 4

What time will the "Learn to Sail" activity start?

Accepted Answer

Learn to Sail begins after the regatta races end. The races depend on the wind conditions, so it's not possible to have a set time. It could begin as early as 2pm or as late as 3:30pm. We encourage you to come join the fun cheering on the bottle boats in order not to miss the learn to sail.

Question 5

What age is appropriate for Learn to Sail?

Accepted Answer

An adult needs to accompany any youth under 16. We find that kids around 10 yrs old have the attention span to learn and the hand-eye coordination to manage the controls to steer the model yachts.

Every youth varies in their ability, we have had youth as young as 5 years old sail well.
